Monday 9/30/19

3rd and 6th hours will be completing what the others classes did on Friday.  We are going to complete one of the interactive activities for Topic 1, Lesson 2 "Interactive Periodic Table Interactivity".  We will complete this together in class.  You can try it out ahead of time.  Use the worksheet below.  The worksheet is also available on Pearson's site.  I would like for you to complete whatever we do not get to on your own.  You will need to go to clever.com and log in like you log in for math. For those who haven't done this your logon is the same one you use for logging on to computers at school.  LOGON:  district\your computer logon

password: is your computer password.  You will probably have to choose a background and icon before you get started.  Go to Pearson, Topic 1 and open it.  Go to lesson 2 and open it.  Choose the "Interactive Periodic Table Activity".  You can also print a worksheet from here.  It is fairly easy to navigate.  good luck.

2nd, 4th and 7th will turn in the interactive periodic table worksheet. We will then head to the lab.

We will be generating 3 gases by chemical reaction:  Hydrogen, oxygen and carbon dioxide.  This requires the use of sodium hydroxide (lye).  Goggles, closed toe shoes, tied back hair, hand washing before leaving lab and no floppy sleeves are an absolute MUST.  I will not be reminding you to wear your goggles.  You will sit out if I catch you without them.  We will observe the physical properties of each gas and test the chemical properties with a burning wooden splint.  The lab page will be due on Tuesday.

Tuesday 10/1/19

2nd, 4th, and 7th will have the gas lab sheet due.

We will then go over the Bunsen Burner.  I will draw it on the board and you will draw it in your comp book.  We will discuss use and proper lighting of the Burner.  There will be a quiz over the burner on Wednesday.  You will need to label the parts of the burner and answer

5 multiple choice questions about the function of a burner.

Here is a lovely little video on Bunsen's famous burner.  It was made for his 200th birthday, March 11, 2011.
