I will be entering "grades" for last week's

work on TigerView today.  You will receive an

"X" on the required work if it was completed.

You will receive a "0" on the required work that was not completed. I will also be making

contact with those individuals.

If you completed the online work that was not

a requirement, I will note it as a "X" as well. I will leave that entry 'blank' for those not completing it.  Remember the work that is assigned but not required is designed to help you do well on the quiz. Food for thought...

yummy!

Lesson 2 "Geologic Time Scale" starting on page 312 emphasizes the deep history of the Earth, which stretches back 4.5 billion years.  The history of the Earth is

known as geologic time, and the Geologic Time Scale is how scientists keep track of it.  The first life forms were bacteria, and they appear in the fossil record about 3.5 billion years ago.  Scientists who study Earth's rocks and fossils embedded in many of the layers have divided geologic time into eras and periods.  They separate these times by the life contained in each of them.  The earliest time in Earth's history is known as the Precambrian, when no life- and then very simple life- existed. More complex forms of life appeared 540 million years ago.  Scientists use the appearance of complex life forms in the fossil record to mark the start of the Cambrian period, which is the first period of the Paleozoic Era.  Appearance of mammals 66 million years ago marks the beginning of the Cenozoic Era. Modern humans appeared during this era about 2.6 million years ago.

Today's assignment consists of 2 online assignments.  One is an interactivity:  On the Clock.  The other is a video: Geologic Time.  You must log on to complete both of these.

Are they for a grade? No, the quiz for this section will be the only "graded" assignment.  But remember, this is designed to get you ready for the quiz.  I can see who is doing the activity and who is not.  Those not completing the lead up assignments to the quiz will probably be hearing from me.  Yes, boys and girls, I have my eye on YOU!

Here is a video from the USGS about Illinois' geologic history.  It is actually chapter

1 of a multi-video series.  Watch it.  If it interests you watch others in the series.

Complete the embedded questions in the section.  Complete these directly on the

pages of your text book. Please do not send photos or scans of these pages.

Is it for a grade? Again, NO, but it is difficult to complete the online quiz if
