The counting atoms worksheet will be due.

We will then work on learning how to balance equations.  It is always better to show all of your work and use pencil when learning how to balance an equation.  Once you have had enough practice, you

might be able to do it in your head BUT I still want to see your thought processes on paper.

Here is a tutorial for writing equations and then balancing them.

It is step-by step and could be super helpful!

Thursday 12/5/19

We are going to complete the hydrogen balloon gas lab.  This lab involves the generation of hydrogen gas by chemical reaction.  We will collect the hydrogen in a balloon and then ignite the balloon filled with hydrogen for a lovely second reaction that is quite the spectacle to behold.

This lab involves sodium hydroxide (NaOH) an extremely caustic base.  Therefore, everyone MUST wear goggles and have long hair tied back.  You MUST wear a shoe that has no toe exposure.  (You know how I feel about socks and sandals!!)  You absolutely must wash your hands before leaving the lab area.  The reaction is EXTREMELY exothermic and care must be taken at all times during the lab.  I will not tolerate any sort of disruption.

The lab page will be due on Friday with a lab quiz.

Here is the lab page.

UPDATE:  We did not have time to grade the balancing equations worksheet today.  We will hold off on that until tomorrow.

Friday 12/6/19

2nd, 3rd, 6th and 7th will be enjoying a reward party.  This will mean the balancing equations worksheet, the Hydrogen Gas lab page, and the Gas Lab Quiz will be Monday.  Be ready.

4th hour will have the Gas Lab page due and take the lab quiz.

We will also grade the balancing equations worksheet from yesterday.
