Tuesday 10/15/19

Topic 1, Lesson 4 "Types of Bonds" guided reading is due.

If we have time we will complete the "Shedding Light on Ions" demo.  Because of

the nature of this lab it must be completed as a demonstration.

Here is the lab page for this.

UPDATE:  We will complete the "Shedding Light on Ions" Demo on Thursday.

Wednesday 10/16/19

I will have a sub today.  I expect everyone to be on their best behavior.  Make good choices.  You will be completing a worksheet over Ionic and Covalent bonding.  It does have a brief reading selection, but your book could come in VERY hand here.  I have instructed your sub to not let ANYONE leave the room for bathroom breaks or to get a science book that supposed to be with you.  This is science after all DUH.

Here are the two worksheets:

Thursday 10/17/19

We will check the Ionic/ Covalent packet from yesterday.

We will then complete the "Shedding Light On Ions" Demo previously set for Tuesday. Please see Tuesday's entry for the accompanying lab sheet.  This lab sheet will be due on Friday.

If you miss the demo, you need to download this worksheet.  Make predictions whether the solution will make the light light or not.  Then watch the youtube video to complete the rest of the worksheet.  (even if you were here it is a good video using a couple of different solutions)

Since 2nd, 3rd, 7th and possibly 6th will be having a popcorn reward party of Friday, they will get the assignment that will be due on Monday today.  It is naming and writing ionic compounds.

Here is the naming and writing ionic compounds tutorial.  It is pretty self explanatory, but we will cover the the basics in class.  You will also get a list of polyatomic ion formulas and their charges.  I don't have a pdf of that list.

There will be a two sided worksheet to complete.  One side covers writing formulas and the other side covers naming formulas.  I am sorry but I do not have a pdf file of those two worksheets.

Friday 10/18/19

2nd, 3rd, and 7th hours are having a reward party.

The "Shedding Light on Ions" Demo/ lab page will also be due on Monday for these hours.

The "Writing and Naming Binary Formulas" will also be due on Monday for these hours.

4th and 6th hours will have the "Shedding Light on Ions" Demo/ lab page due.

We will work on the "Writing Binary Formulas" worksheet.  I do have the tutorial posted on Thursday's post, plus I will hand a a hard copy. Students will also receive a list of polyatomic ions.  I do not have pdf files for the worksheet of the poly-ion list.  This will be due on Monday.

ATTENTION:  Do not forget that Monday is Mole Day.  Your "Moletoon"  will be due.  Making "Smoles" on Mole Day using the Bunsen burner has been a long standing tradition.  Make sure you are planning with your lab group who is bringing what "smole"  supplies.  NO PEANUTS PLEASE.  Since we will be using the Bunsen burners, proper attire is required!
